With the rising demand for energy-efficient homes, Low-E glass has become a popular choice for homeowners looking to improve their home's overall performance. At Kolbe Gallery by Finestra Design, we offer a range of Low-E glass options so you can get the design you love with performance that enhances day-to-day life in your space!
But what is Low-E Glass and how do you choose the right option? In this blog post, we will explore the various types of Low-E glass we offer and help you decide which option is best suited for your home!
So, What is Low-E Glass?
Low-E, standing for Low Emissivity, is a highly advanced coating which acts to substantially decrease the transfer of energy that passes through the unit of insulating glass. By strategically reducing the rate at which energy is transferred through the glass, this state-of-the-art coating effectively manages to lower the need for excessive heating in the cold winter months, as well as limit the use of cooling systems in the heat of summer. This reduction in energy use, whether it be heating or cooling, not only contributes towards a greener planet but also results in a significant decrease in annual energy costs for homeowners and businesses alike.
Moreover, the benefits of Low-E coatings extend beyond energy conservation and cost savings. By reducing the propensity for condensation to form on the window surface, these coatings can prevent the kind of damp conditions that often lead to mildew growth or structural degradation, thereby prolonging the lifespan of your windows and maintaining their aesthetic appeal.
Your Low-E Glass Options:
We offer the following Low-E insulated glass options, as well as many specialized options:
Solar Gain Low-E Glass:
Ideal for colder climates, Solar Gain Low-E glass keeps homes warmer and more comfortable by blocking heat loss to the outside while allowing the sun's heat to stream in, increasing solar heat gain. This type of glass is perfect for maintaining a cozy indoor environment during frigid weather.
Solar Low-E Glass:
Suitable for most climates and meeting most energy zone requirements, Solar Low-E glass is designed to reflect room-side heat back into the room during winter months. In the summer, visible sunlight is allowed in while blocking most of the sun's infrared heat energy. This is Kolbe's most popular Low-E glass option.
Solar Control Low-E Glass:
Solar Control Low-E glass offers an ideal balance of solar control and high visibility by blocking 95% of UV rays while maintaining the interior temperature. This type of glass is excellent for providing comfort and energy efficiency all year round.
Solar Advanced Control Low-E Glass:
Recommended for warm climates, Solar Advanced Control Low-E glass achieves greater solar control over a wide range of the spectrum while also helping to reduce glare. This tinted glass is perfect for those living in regions with consistently high temperatures.
ThermaPlus Low-E Glass:
ThermaPlus Low-E glass is an additional Low-E coating that helps meet the strictest energy requirements by providing protection against heat loss and UV damage. Available with dual pane versions of Solar Gain Low-E, Solar Low-E, Solar Control Low-E, and Solar Advanced Control Low-E glass.
Triple Pane Glass:
Constructed with three panes of glass and thermal spacer bars, Triple Pane glass provides a greater energy-performing window that keeps indoor air warm and comfortable, prevents heat loss, and can lower your heating bills. It is available in Solar Gain Low-E, Solar Low-E, Solar Control Low-E, and Solar Advanced Control Low-E glass.
Preserve® Film is a protective film that safeguards glass surfaces from scratches during transit and construction, reducing job site clean-up time.
Tinted, Colored or Patterned Glass:
For shading, privacy, or visual interest, consider tinted, colored, or patterned glass options.
Standard in Kolbe doors, tempered glass addresses safety concerns and is also available in window units to meet specific building codes.
Laminated glass offers benefits such as safety, security, sound control, and the ultimate in UV blockage.
Neat+™ glass harnesses the sun's UV rays to loosen dirt, allowing water to rinse it away and leaving windows cleaner for longer. The special sputter-coating process makes the glass ultra-smooth, so water "sheets off" more readily than it would on uncoated glass, reducing cleaning time.
